Inn On The Harbor
Stonington - Night One
Home to one of New England's largest fishing fleets, Stonington, Maine still retains its quintessential down east charm. Tucked against the southern shore of Deer Isle, the view from the village stretches among the islands of Merchants Row.
We spend our first night at the Inn On The Harbor, an historic inn that was built at the water's edge in 1880. Recently renovated, the accommodations include spacious rooms furnished with antiques.
Camping on Maine Islands
Nights Two and Three
It would be difficult to find more idyllic campsites than those set on the Maine islands. Rimmed with granite and capped with spruce, there is much to offer the paddler. The combination of spectacular location and hearty, fresh-cooked meals is tough to beat (especially on the days when we buy lobster directly from the boats or pick delicious blue mussels from the shore).
